Goodbye Louis

GOOD LUCK LOUIS!

Today was a sad day for 5Jw - we had to say farewell to Louis.

We all agree that Louis is star and a really brilliant character in the class - he will be missed for sure. However he has exciting time ahead in Doha! He leaves Kings' with lots of friends!

In circle time we all said:

  • We will miss Louis

  • The class won'be the same without Louis

  • Louis is really funny

  • Louis makes people smile and feel happy

  • Louis has good ideas and is lots of fun

We presented Louis with a 'memory book' full of wishes from his classmates and teachers at Kings'

We all wish Louis and his family the very best of luck for their move to Doha.

Take care and keep in touch Louis!

Oh my word - what a horrible sight! Perhaps Louis will be pleased to leave afterall!!!

Year 5 Christmas song - lyrics to learn

Learn the words to our Year 5 song - we are doing a great job so far!!!

Share our Christmas wishes with every place on earth,
Let all nations know we care and know that they are worth,
Our wish for peace and happiness and hope that they can say,
A new dawn brings a new day and a peaceful Christmas day.

5KO
I’ve travelled all around the world to many different places
But there’s one thing I’ve always seen on many different faces
It doesn’t matter where in the whole world that you might live,
This special time of year makes us ready to forgive.

Share our Christmas wishes with every place on earth,
Let all nations know we care and know that they are worth,
Our wish for peace and happiness and hope that they can say,
A new dawn brings a new day and a peaceful Christmas day.

5JW
It really doesn’t matter, the colour of your skin,
The only thing that matters is the heart that beats within
A good heart makes the sun come out and turns the world around
So raise your voice with my voice to make this joyful sound

Share our Christmas wishes with every place on earth,
Let all nations know we care and know that they are worth,
Our wish for peace and happiness and hope that the can say,
A new dawn brings a new day X3
and a peaceful Christmas day.

Lyrics to Learn - It's Christmas

Cold dark winter winds are blowing
All around the world tonight
As winter grips us with its icy grasp so cold and tight

Freezes every centimeter of me,
I don’t feel the cold.
Warmth is everywhere around me
It’s a story to be told

It’s Christmas in just a very few sleeps
Don’t care where the icicles creep,
Cos I’m always pleased to see
Decorations on the Christmas tree
It’s Christmas so we sit by the fire
Listening to the voices of the Christmas Choir
Happiness and love wherever you go
Hey-it’s Christmas – bring on the snow!

It’s Christmas gotta eat my sprouts
At least that’s what my Mum always shouts
I wouldn’t mind except you see
They’ve been cooking since Jan-u-ary
It’s Christmas I get to see all my folks
Listening to Grandpa’s awful jokes
I still laugh because I guess you know
Hey it’s Christmas – bring on the snow

Ding Dong Ding Dong
Ding Dong bring on the snow x 4
It’s Christmas in just a very few sleeps
Don’t care where the icicles creep,
Cos I’m always pleased to see
Decorations on the Christmas tree
It’s Christmas so we sit by the fire
Listening to the voices of the Christmas Choir
Happiness and love wherever you go
Hey-it’s Christmas – bring on the snow!

5JW inspired by Paul Klee

We have been working hard in class and enjoying our Paul Klee painting work. After looking at Klee's work we have all designed our own work, considering the use of a figure.

We made a rough sketch of ideas in pencil before making a light sketch of our chosen design on our paper. We then considered the shapes and colours we may use for a background.

After recapping how to mix lovely, thick, creamy and 'LUSH' paint and how to use our brush effectively we began painting. Have a look at our work so far in the slideshow below.

Praise from Mrs Orford

To all in year 5JW,

What an amazing amount of information, pictures and riddles you have on your blog! I have just spent a very enjoyable half hour going through your blogs. Well done, Keep up the good work.

Mr Stedman says:

Dear 5JW and 5KON

I have been meaning to contact you for sometime to tell you how impressed I am with your class blog. I took a look whilst I was in the UK recently and it was great to have such a good reminder of Kings' and all of the fantastic things that you are doing. I showed some of my family and friends and they were amazed at how well you all express yourselves and the quality of your work. Well done!

I was particularly interested in your work on bread making. You may not know, but I come from a family of Bakers. My grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather were all Master Bakers in the county of Surrey in the UK. I can remember as a schoolboy visiting my grandfather's bakery and watching him make different kinds of bread. Whenever I smell bread cooking it brings back some very happy memories.

I look forward to finding out more about what you are up to in year 5!

Who wants to be part of the school council?
What kinds of things make a person 'good' for the school council?
What kind of quailities should a student council member have?

Later this week we will be voting in class for our own school council members.

You can do this by writing your ideas on paper, or type it up and print it, or add some ideas about yourself by commenting on this post.

Wise words from Counsellor Ian Argent

Hello Class 5JW,

My name is Ian Argent. I'm also an old friend of Mr Watson. I love your class blog - it looks like you do some really interesting work, and have some fun too! I think it must be cool having Mr Watson as a teacher! What do you think?

I was really happy to see that you were all discussing the dangers of smoking a couple of weeks ago. In my work I meet with lots of people who are suffering from cancer. Some of them have been smokers in their life. Often, they are very sad and sorry that they have smoked, because it shortens their life so horribly.

When someone is ill, or even dying, it can be really upsetting for them, their friends, and family, too. That's where I come in - my job as a counsellor is about talking to people and helping them to share their feelings - sad, scared, angry, or whatever.

Although I like this part of my work, I can really see how dangerous smoking can be, and what can happen to people who smoke. Young people often make the mistake of thinking it's cool - but I have seen that lung cancer is really un-cool.

I'm really impressed that you've been debating this in such a mature way, and my congratulations on a very interesting blog.
I promise to keep looking in from time to time, and leave a comment too.

Best wishes to you all,

Ian
